Autocam Medical’s commitment to the community is quite apparent. This strong community involvement begins with Autocam Medical’s President and CEO, John Kennedy, and his wife, Nancy Kennedy.
The Kennedy family has been a long time supporter of educational initiatives in the Grand Rapids community. They have focused much of their philanthropic efforts on educational institutions, both at the grade school/high school level, as well as the collegiate level. Some of these include Grand Valley State University, Aquinas College, Grand Rapids University Preparatory Academy, Grand Rapids Public Schools, and Catholic education.
In February 2015, Governor Snyder appointed John to be the chairperson of his Third Grade Reading Work Group. After being involved in this work group, the Kennedys were motivated to help improve literacy in their own community. This decision resulted in partnering with the Grand Rapids Public School District to implement a pilot literacy program (The Sound Reading Framework). They recognize the importance of building a strong literary foundation at a young age and commit their family foundation to improving the literacy skills of students in their community and beyond.
Mr. Kennedy also devotes time to a number of organizations. He is a member of the Boards of Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids University Preparatory Academy, Lacks Enterprises, Shape Corporation, Colt Manufacturing, the Van Andel Institute, the Acton Institute, and Advisory Board Member of the University of Michigan Ross School of Business Samuel Zell and Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. He also was previously a commissioner for the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Mrs. Kennedy serves on the Boards of United Way, the Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park Foundation, and the Foundation for Catholic Secondary Education.
Through their personal commitments to the community, the Kennedys lead Autocam Medical by example. They instill a strong philanthropic value in the company and encourage employees to give back to the community. Autocam Medical has contributed extraordinary gifts of time and talent to local and national charities. The company is a major donor to United Way, and has been recognized several times as one of the highest per-capita contributors in Kent County, Michigan. Autocam Medical’s generous employees have recently donated to Kids Food Basket, D.A. Blodgett St. John’s, and consistently participate in an annual Christmas fundraiser event.
