The following transcript is the result of an internal interview and has been edited for clarity and precision.

Jayson, how did you hear about Autocam Medical?

I’ve been in the manufacturing industry since high school in many capacities, working my way up. I previously worked for a company that introduced me to Autocam Medical. When I decided it was time for a new opportunity the match between the company and my skills made a lot of sense.

What made you choose Autocam Medical?

I am always looking for ways to grow and learn. New challenges are my brain food. I’ve done so many things in manufacturing from sweeping up the shop to management. Learning the lathe, the mill, CNC Machining, CNC Programing, to Engineering and leading teams were all part of my journey.

Autocam Medical is a big enough company that I can continue to grow and learn,
but it’s not so big that I can’t make a real individual impact.

That was very appealing to me. I should also mention the benefit package. It’s a big selling point. The benefits and the medical coverage here are unbelievable.

So, what stands out to you about working at Autocam Medical?

I’ve been with Autocam Medical for less than a year, so the learning is continuous. Working in machine shops throughout my career, I’ve seen a lot of parts and processes.

One thing that hit me right away about medical device manufacturing is the design. The devices we make are truly works of art. The amount of collaboration, technology and engineering that go into each piece is staggering because it has to be perfect.

I need to mention my team here as well, our people here. We have a great group, leaders, hard workers, professionals, smart people who genuinely get along and pull together to do incredible things. Great comradery.

Tell me about being a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at Autocam Medical.

I have an active leadership role in the Engineering Department. I’m serious about continuous improvement.

We work in medical devices and instruments. It’s important work that we do everyday. I’m always searching for ways for our team to be cutting edge, more efficient, more collaborative. It’s a great mix for me because I am always going from one thing to the next.

I’m never at my desk so long it becomes a desk job; that wouldn’t be my cup of tea. I’m in my sweet spot of managing and doing. At the same time, I am learning everyday. I am humble enough to know I don’t know everything, and you have to be willing to learn new tricks. The good ideas can come from anywhere.
